A database that contains a single table and can be easily represented using plain text. This type of database contrasts with a relational database, which can contain any number of tables that are linked together. Often, to keep things simple when transferring data between organizations, people will request a flat file. Common flat file text formats include tab-delimited and CSV. ISP Glossary:

Telemarketers, however, told the three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the list inhibits competition and violates their right to free speech by barring calls from businesses but not charities or politicians. Simple enough to fix. I also don't want to hear from charities or politicians.I agree, but it may be difficult to expand it to include that. Thecourts have generally allowed the legislature to get around the 1stAmendment when it comes to commercial speech, but they're very wary ofallowing restrictions on other types of speech. So the do-not-calllists probably have to limit themselves to businesses in order to beconstitutional at all.I wonder if this limitation is the reason I've recently noticed anincrease in telemarketing calls. When I got on my state's list at thebeginning of October, I noticed an immediate decrease in the number ofempty calls on my answering machine (it's a cheapo that's not good atcancelling blank calls), from at least 5 a day to 1 or 2 a week. Butin November it picked up a bit, to about 2 a day. The few times I'vebeen home and picked up, it was a charity, so I suspect most of thesecalls are from end-of-year pledge drives.I also suspect that even if the do-not-call lists included charities, myexisting relationship as a past donor would keep it from being applied.Barry Margolin, barry.margolin@level3.comLevel(3), Woburn, MA*** DON'T SEND TECHNICAL QUESTIONS DIRECTLY TO ME, post them to newsgroups. Please DON'T copy followups to me -- I'llassume it wasn't posted to the group.
