No competitorand youcan jack up the prices...basic law of capitalism. or you coulddo whatWalmart does is continually lower the quality of its merchandise...sameeffect. OK - now show us ONE location, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, whereWalMart has no competition. define competition. anyway that isn't the claim. The claim is that given a lack of competition they are under no restraint to keep priceslow. Where is there a lack of competition for Wal Mart? And why do youthink it's even possible for such a thing to happen? Okay I'll admit I don't know where Walmart doesn't havecompetition...of course I don't know what you mean by competition. I'm sure there are plenty of locations where there isn't an equivalent store that matches them for variety, You're sure? Then you should have no problem naming one of thoselocations. Like I said I'm not familiar with all of their locations.I didn't ask you to name all of their locations..... just name one thatmatches your criticism. What's that? You can't??? I see. You're just speaking in hypotheticals.Something that might be happening in a parallel universe. just as there are undoubtedly plenty of individual stores that compete on some basis (as an odd quirk the walmart built near me has a Payless shoe store right next to it and the wholebuilding was built from scratch by tearing down an old strip mall that didn't have a payless. don't know if they are profitable, but they arethere.) If they aren't profitable, they won't be there for long. Why is it possible for such a thing to happen? I don't think they pay their employees enough to actually have much disposable income "You don't think"? What Wal Mart pays their employees is none of your concern. Wal Mart makes the wage offer. A person is free to accept or reject the offer. If the offer is accepted, then obviously what WalMart pays isn't an issue to the employee. Around here if they were making $10/hour that would be about $1600 +/- before taxes and deductions for a full time employee. After rent, food and utilities that doesn't leave much in the way of discretionary income...and I doubt they are making $10/hour.What a person agreees to accept in regards to wages from Wal Mart is none ofyour concern. If a person thinks what Wal Mrt offers is not enough, thatperson is free to not work for them. and Walmart doesn't for the most part buy anything local so they aren't really adding anything except tax revenue to the area. Most grocery stores don't buy anything local. Somebody has to be buying local because there sure are a lot of farmers and ranchers around (here). And I know most of those crabs are from nearby, chickens in the same area, bread, eggs, milk, even cheese and ice-cream. Of course "local" is relative. What I meant to say was, that most of the items on grocery store shelvesisn't local. But again, what business is it of yours if hords of peoplechoose to shop at Wal Mart? I would suggest you mind your own business andallow people the freedom to choose. Why is it a problem when Wal Mart follows suit? Because them dollars they use to buy stuff in China just don't seem to be making their way back here. Then why not protest Pier 1 Imports? Ever
