ISP Information:
The 32-bit instruction set used by most PCs. It originated with the Intel spec of the 8088, which then went to the 8086. Since then increments have come by changing the first number to 80286, 80386, "486", and then Pentium and beyond. The reason that the newer chips are actually named is because the numbers can't be copyrighted, and Intel needed to distinguish its chips from competitors' products. ISP Glossary:
x86 - Yikes! You did of course cancel the order?I just had a similar thing happen with Amazon.Ordered 12/6 with all items showing in stockand will ship within 24 hours. They claim to have shipped it 12/16. I called tocheck 12/23. The tracking number says theyhavent shipped it. Now granted they were allDVDs and Books. I ran around 12/24 getting thisstuff. They didnt offer me any compensation for my headache. They now think it will be here 12/29. Of course it's goingright back....I would think a reputable company could havefixed this on 12/23..Ah well I guess I "feel your pain"....When a company shaftsyou and then will not do anything for you DO NOT EVER GO BACK.I havent shopped at Wal-Mart since 1995. Good luck..."Kathy" wrote in messagenews:3FE98E68.AAD825FB@verizon.net... I ordered a Gateway desktop over the phone on Tues.Dec.16. Their website was GUARANTEEING delivery for Christmas. The salesman told me that it would take 2 days to put it together - Wed and Thurs - and it would be shipped out on Friday via UPS 2-day shipping and would arrive on Mon. the 22nd. He was very firm about the shipping/arrival dates. When the computer didn't arrive on Monday, I called and informed him that it had not arrived and asked why not. He checked and said "It's been shipped and it will probably be there tomorrow (Tues.)." I shrieked "PROBABLY????????" He said "I mean, I'm 99.99 percent sure it will be there tomorrow." Tues. came and no computer. I called and requested to speak with the manager. He checked my order and told me it was in the shipping dep't ready to be picked up and he had told them to change the shipping to "overnight" and assured me that I would have it on Wed. in time for Christmas. On Wed.the 24th, no computer. I called the sales manager back and he's no longer taking calls. His voice mail directed me to "customer service". I got a very nice lady who checked my account and said "I'm sorry to tell you that your computer is waiting for parts that are backordered and due to arrive on Dec. 27. It IS, however, designated for free overnight shipping and you should receive it on Jan. 2nd. " I sent an email to their online site voicing my complaints about the lies I was told. If the salesman had told me on Dec. 16th that all the parts were not there and they could not promise delivery by Christmas, I could have made other arrangements. Even on Monday, I could have still shopped locally for a computer. On Dec. 24th, I no longer had that option. The answer was a big long explanation about how their system works and what might have happened to delay my computer - basically excuses and rationalizations about the "disinformation" I'd been given by the sales department. Beware of Gateway's lying sales reps. kathy
