ISP Information:
A removable hard drive casing. There are two parts to the canister: the bay itself, and the casing that goes around the hard drive. These canisters can be used with SCSI or IDE/ATA hard drives, and have the advantage of easy portability of hard drives, especially if you have multiple computers with the same type of bay in them. Integrating a bare hard drive into a removable canister can be an annoying chore, as space is ISP Glossary:
Removable Canister - "David North" wrote in messagenews:2eb94de6.0308260628.49c0f212@posting.google.com... Dear All, I recently purchased a USR/3COM 3cxm756 pcmcia modem, for my Win 2000 (SP4) equiped laptop. The OS auto-installed my old 3com 33.3k modem network card combo fine. Today I tried to install my newly aquired (e-bay!) 3cxm756 modem. I have checked the windows & USR websites both say its win2000 compatible and that the necessary drivers are included in win2000. Upon inserting the card my laptop begins installing it, firstly it recognises it "New Hardware detected 3com 3cxm756 modem etc." (picture of a interface card) then this changed to "standard pcmcia modem" (with a picture of a phone) and its installed as such i.e. its identided as a standard pcmcia modem NOT a 3com modem. When looking at properties under control panel/modem the hardware id is 3com 3cxm756.I'm confused. You say it is not identified as a 3Com modem and then you sayit is.How many modems show under Control Panel/Modems? I tried it briefly and it seems to work fine HOWEVER the network connection icons are showing the port connection speed (115.2 from memory) not the actual initial connection speed. This leads me to think the driver is wrong; I would like to see the inital connection speed not port speed for obvious reasonsIf the modem shows as a 3Comcxm756 in Control Panel/Modems then that will bea choice in DUN. Go to the dialup icon's properties and select the correctone and everything should work.Sometimes Windows installs both the actual model and a "standard modem".It's just a matter of making sure you use the right incarnation...--Hooda Gest"In a New York minute, everything can change..."
