I'm going to post 'items of interest' about our new world, here in MyCopper, things you might not have discovered, things that are different from that Old Dark World that we have left behind, (and will soon be forgotten), and I invite anyone to post similar info here.
Instead of FAQs, this is to be kind of a Questions You Never Knew to Ask.
Feel free to ask 'how do I' questions.
If you are too embarrassed to post a simple question, you can PM it to me; I'll repeat it and I promise to never tell a soul who was the Dumbunny who asked that silly question.
Please, this is not for problems, crashes, black screens of death. Jeff will probably never see them here.
Before you post a question, please do review the thread from the beginning so we don't have the same queries over and over.

(Sorry this is so long... I find PMs really convenient, and I got kind of carried away here.)
What the H*ck is a 'PM' and what do I do with it... And whenever I am logged-in, why does that thing in the upper right corner of my forum page say I have 47 unread items in my inbox, after I have read all of my emails?
Private Messages (PMs) are a lot like 'sending notes' to a friend back when you were in school. There are many advantages.
The biggest advantage over emails is that while you are anywhere in forum, when you navigate to a new page or refresh, if you have a PM waiting for you, you will automatically get a notice, in that upper right corner... But if you want to know if you have any email, you have to navigate in and out of your email account or email client... and maybe it's empty.
…Like when you were a kid and your mom told you to run out and check the mail box... always disappointing to make that effort and find it was empty. No disappointing empty inbox to keep checking with PMs.
You can click on 'forum' and scroll down and it will tell you who is logged-in. When you know someone is there, sending PMs back and forth can work almost like Instant Messaging.
But, better than IMs, your recipient does NOT need to be on-line the same time as you… Your PMs will be safely saved in his or her PM inbox.
On my Super Slow dial-up PMs seem to work faster than emails. I assume that they never go out ‘on the internet’; are just transferred from one Copper account to another, through the Copper server. Going in and out of (at)Copper.net emails sometimes results in my forum log-in being dropped, especially if I am in my email account for over 20 minutes, (possibly because it is hosted by a separate business), going in and out of PMs is not usually a problem, at least not for me.
PMs are easier and faster to open a ‘compose’ box and address it. The quickest way is: find any post by that person, and INSIDE of his/her post box, there is a button / link for ‘Private Message’. One click, and you have opened your text box for composing a PM and it is already pre-addressed. You only need to fill in the subject and your message.
Or, anywhere that you see that member’s ID in blue, click on it, which brings up his/her profile, and a ‘Private Message’ link. Click on it, and in just one more click you have the same as above.
In copper email the smiley choice is very lame, and they show up so small that it’s a waste. When I get one, I cannot distinguish just what it is… But in PMs, you get all of those same FIFTY smileys from forum, and in the same format to find your fav.
Another neat feature of PMs is the 'look up' a member's id. You only have to type the first 3-4 letters of a user’s ID in the address space, click ‘look up’ and PM software will find the right id; no misspellings!
Now the good and bad… PMs REQUIRE a subject. A PITA till you get used to it, but oh, so nice when you are the recipient!
So what is the downside of PMs? There are not as many functions as with regular emails. There MIGHT be a size limit per PM, so I doubt if some of these 500 megabite cartoons will get through. Sending files, attachments, pix, is sometime not possible, depending on what you are trying to send from where. There is a ‘send an image’ icon, but I haven’t used it.
And there is no ‘trash can’, so be careful---no rescues if you change your mind after you delete.
PMs really are private; I have tried every which way but loose, but they only send out to one person at a time. If you want to send a message to 43 of your closest friends, you’ll have to use email, or keep repeating your PM.
And unlike emails, you can only send PMs to other Copper members… So get your friends to sign up. Even if they have another ISP, you can get a ‘back-up’ Copper dial up account, called ‘Copper Lite’ which gives them forum posting privileges, a blog of their own at no extra charge, a PM account to send PMs to you, AND 30 hours per month of dial up service for when their ‘other’ service is out of wack, all for less than $5 per month.
Last but BEST is that after you click on ‘inbox’ to read your PMs you can click on ‘sent’ messages… and like a sneaky spy, it will tell you if the recipient has opened your PM or not. There are a few email providers which will do this, but I do not believe any of them are free, and if that paid email goes through an email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.), it might not display this.
If you are not confident if you have the hang of this PM thing, send a test one to me, and I’ll reply if it went through OK… And then you won’t have that disappointing empty inbox!
EDIT: In case the above was not clear.
When you are in forum, and near the upper right corner of each page, under your ID, it says "inbox (1 unread)", just click on the words "inbox (1 unread)" to open your inbox and read your new message.

The old site was based on dialup accounts. The new site is based on email accounts. In other words, you just need an email account with us to get access.

AMBER ALERTS! What happened to what's-her/his face???
If your fav poster (or your fav provocateur) is MIA, it is east to check on his/her last post.
Anywhere that you see that person's name in blue, click on it. This opens up her/his profile.
Across the top is a tab for 'recent posts'; click on it.
This will give you the last 10 posts from that member's ID. (Remember that some members do have multiple email accounts and can post under more than one ID.)

Just a repeat, in case this was not clear.

You must be logged in to forum.
Go to any post made by the person you wish to ignore.
On the left side, where that person's ID name is in bold black, click on it.
Click on 'hide user posts'.

That pink print is hard on old fifty-four-year-old eyes.
I don't find this site all that different from the old ond.
I use it for email for junk emails and for people I know who don't get it that this is not my main email now. And I use the forum.
New works for me.

Sorry you don't like the pink. I like pink. I wear pink every day. Pink purse, pink shoes, pink hat, pink coat, (...have not been able to find driving gloves in pink... at least not yet). I think of pink as my trademark.
Pink makes me feel more girly when the calendar says I'm no girl anymore. Call it age-denial.
In forum, I'd much rather use black print on a very pale pink background, but background coloring is not available in forum... at least not yet. 
I much preferred the darker magenta in old forum, (which I often used and never got one complaint) but that is long gone. I have been experimenting with different sizes and with or without bold...
I can't have it too small because my own monitor needs to be almost 4 feet from my nose. At first, even in size 7, I had a complaint that the pink was too faint to be read, at least on a laptop, so I used a bigger font. Then there was a couple of complaints that the big 8 font looked like I was screaming, and it did. I've never been a screamer... such a wrong impression to make. Thought the italics softened the scream look a little.
So I finally settled on size 7 with bold and italics AND IN MY FAV PINK. And unless I get about 20 complaints, I'm sticking with it until Jeff can give us more color choices, including the old magenta, or if he can give us a faint background color.
If you really can't stand it, highlight it and you'll see white print on navy, def easier on the eyes.
But don't let it worry you. There won't be many more posts from me.

Well, yeah, pink is girly, but this pink is hard to read because it's pale.
I just tried to reply to a post and got notified I had to have a subject line, bug copperdarn if I can find where to PUT the line.

You probably hit a wrong button. Only a New Topic and a PM (Private Message) require a subject line. There is a white box for it right above the box for your typing, but I've made over 250 posts in beta and New Copper, and I've never had a request for a subject line when I use either the 'quote' or 'reply' buttons.
(But that 'New Topic' button will start a new thread.)
(Made this a 7 instead of a 6, just for you, J.)

Also, just found a new glitch. When you try to use 'New Topic' maybe your user ID is auto-appearing in the subject line, in particular if you use 'remember me' at log-in. It should not be there. I just reported this to Jeff in MyCopper feedback.
If you have had the same experience, you might want to add to my thread, where I left my name in the subject line just as it auto-filled in.

Yes, imweezie is correct about the PMs. They actually work more like an Instant Message.
And imweezie, if you want to title a thread so similar to a huge string of self-help books, that you wind up discussing it with attorneys and explaining it to a judge, fine with me; YOU GO GIRL!

I like pink. It is a very pretty color. However it might interest you to know that any pale shades or reds are nearly invisible to anyone with vision problems...Red especially become invisible to those who are in the process of growing cataracts. Everyone has the right to personal preferences, but as long as this forum is printed in a color that I can barely see, I will just have to miss all the words of wisdom that appear there.
If the purpose of your statement is to communicate with other people, you just might want to reconsider making your statements visible to those of us who are experience visual problems.
Good luck on whatever you do choose.

Good luck on whatever you do choose. For you and for those who must use a laptop screen, I'm switching to size 7, and those who say it looks like I'm screaming... don't fret. When I want to scream, there are still sizes 8 and 9.
Also, for anyone who has trouble reading pink or yellow or even white... hold down your clicker and swipe your cursor over the text. It will appear white on a navy background, much easier to see.
