Sometimes there are things and a need to get them out
But I just give you the finger tell you to hit the road
You don't want to listen I don't want to be ignored
All of this is in my mind you can't handle cruel...little baby
So the dance goes on, and you smile and I walk around what the fuck
made a promise, will keep it

Scales on my body white wings that lift
dark thoughts flying to the light
struggle with my daily self laughing, laughing, laughing
from the scrapes of yesterday stands raggety man in a new coat
thank you all for everything I'll leave the coat in the hall

It sometimes happens and it sometimes dosen't
twinkle, twinkle, who are you a bit of this and a bit of that
Torn up pieces of possibility stuck together by others thought
Oh God I wish it was true that all of us didn't crush the others
but there is the truth before us hello little star, may you twinkle

It was the place for chaos she used it well
No defenses and no gate Built just a screen door
It was just enough to cover and protected my tower in the rebuilding
it is not always the big things it can be the sun warming your hands

She called my name pretended I didn't hear
she came closer and spoke again pretended to be startled
But it wasn't my name or me she spoke too my ashes shifted in the wind
even knowing all of this pretended that it was me
the wind carried me about leaving me to be one with the earth
She got on with life and someone else

Why are our hands so empty when there is so much to grab
Live off the alley and only ten Why did they have to take my coat
brought a bucket of leaves to help and laid them on the bed to be turned under
neighbor made me a poncho out of an old blanket late at night caught a mess of perch in payment
know where the crayfish lay hungry is the cry, people are the miracle
why are our hands so empty?

I have a friend a mixed up plum tree
gift from my children they know my love of trees
Fall sneaked into the valley and some how that plum woke to Spring
White blossoms and promise went out and tried to explain
Put mulch around the base and... eager to please, will be befuddled
sounds so much like us

Stepped up to the plate no one to pitch and nothing to eat
rolled over to get up nope, wrong side of the bed
tried to sit down and ease my pain sign said standing room only
Time took my hand and led me only to let go and laugh and check the watch
can't take away the fun

Fall is there to ease you reuniting with joint pain
It is there to beat the band the band is there to beat you
the pain can be awful and Fall is wonderful
mellow notes and gentled heat nail two inches below the shoulder
They pulled a knife and sank it an inch to the right of the nail
Summer sounds good

The day warmed things were funny
Haven't fallen down yet bumped my head only once
Winter gardens are planted I am one with my garden hose
Dogs think of me as the snack man in lieu of a snack I am the salt lick
Now about those winning numbers....

Each moment of life is a poem or a bit of prose or maybe an epic
In each moment there is a scrap in each scrap there is a story
Some scraps can be cleaned up with a sponge some require sandbags to contain them
Sometimes when you squeeze out the sponge having sandbags is a blessing
Six hours, children, grandchildren, noise blessed noise, holy, holy, holy noise
Will take more than sandbags this time

kept a nickel in my pocket that tinked when it hit my key so it was left step and nothing, right step...tink
lost that nickel this morning and still hear that tink my right knee is starting to bother me
Went to my in house "library" to do some reading discovered a magnet I lost about the same time as the nickel
it was attracted to my stainless knee cap it also was having an affair with my key
Lust will will always get your pants to sag I love it!

Sittin' on the patio, suckin' rays Dry suckin' up the rain
Sun and children coming together Just how warm can a body be?
Gentle touch of a grandchild Grandpa turned to pudding
How good can it get? Awwwwwww...

new people on stickum labels cover the dead
Those that moved and handed out new numbers and those that didn't; they couldn't remember
Raggety book full of raggety people So true. Mine is quite raggety, now. I learned to use a pencil for the entries, and now for my kids, the eraser has made holes on the paper. It is sad to see email addresses and phone numbers for them, after they've left. Can't bear to delete those last emails they forwarded to me.

Remember that you haven't put on your pants have to start over and the joy of life makes you laugh
Now if I can just get to the toilet on time Joy of life makes you laugh again sounds like you have to pay off a loan
Made it but the door is still open the grand kids aren't here are they? No that was last week...makes you laugh
Joy is where you find it...even in the pain AMEN!

just to make a little more room for the tomatoes
Washed off the dirt and tied them with a string
hung them up to dry
It is the simple things Dang, you're good! I swear I smelled garlic there just for a fraction of a second!

made a promise, will keep it Ahhh, the quiet anger - it lets us know something still works! Something like adrenalin. If adrenalin works, so does the good stuff-- estrogen and testosterone... surely... SURELY!
