Too Cool

My two youngest have the flu.  The 3 boys typically share a bedroom.  When they are sick I spread them out.  I made up the couch in the living room for the youngest and then went in the family room to make up the futon for the 12 year old.  As I was tucking him in he said that he felt sorry for the creator of "cool", that he must be a sad person.  I did not understand.  My son explained, "Well if you are too cool to be tucked in and too cool to have a bedtime story and too cool to play games with your parents you're really just turning down love.  And, because everyone needs love, you'll just end up looking for it somewhere else."

Closing

The close of a day at the close of summer and the closing of a chapter in the book of my family.  My oldest child is not present in this  photo (nor, as I discovered working on a scrapbook for the grandparents, is he in the majority of our pictures from this summer). He has his first job and takes the responsibility seriously - part of growing up.  The other two are close on his heels.

My dad has always said that every age of his children has been his favorite age.  As this chapter of our life closes I am interested to see how the next chapter unfolds.

Making the team

My friend LOVES basketball.  A few years ago she and her husband were watching a women's college game with another couple.  She expressed how much she wished she were playing.  The husband of the other couple told her to not just wish - do something about.  So at 40-something my friend went back to college and made the team!

I LOVE music.  When I was twelve I was singing camp songs while pushing a little girl on a swing.  She stopped the swing and asked what I was doing.  I replied, "Singing."  "Well stop!", she said.  Stop I did - entirely.  I did not sing around others again until I had babies of my own, I would sing to them at night.  When my first child was a toddler he called me into his room to hear a tape he was listening to.  He said, "Mommy, that lady has a nice voice."  When my second child was a toddler he told me, "Mommy, I like when daddy sings."  At 40-something, thanks to me friend's example, I started voice lessons.  After a recent recital a little girl came up with shining eyes and said to me, "I liked your song, it was pretty."  I made the team.

My oldest child, now a teenager, is TALL.  He is frequently asked if he plays basketball, the answer has always been no.  This summer he decided he would regret, when he was older, not trying basketball now.  He's trying out for the High School team.  I hopes he makes the team - regardless yay! for trying.

An afternoon in the woods.

My friend and I spent an afternoon in the woods.  We promised to send each other favorite photos.  We both agreed picking favorites was tough.

The forest.

The floor.

Intricate work
