I Want THAT Job

I was telling my kids about my friend's son applying for a job with Parks and Rec. My 17 year old's face lit up and he asked me what exactly Parks and Rec. was. His face fell as I explained. "Oh," he said, "I thought it had to do with cars - you know, Parks and Wrecks."

I thought this was funny so I called my parents to tell them. When dad got on the phone I asked, "Do you know what Parks and Rec is?" He said, "It sounds like a tow yard." Apples don't fall far from trees.

Dental Floss and Pearls

My mother's parents gave her a strand of graduated pearls when she graduated from high school. I wore them one day when I was in high school. Forgetting what I was wearing I looped my finger under the necklace causing the string to break and pearls to fly everywhere. That night I painstakingly restrung the pearls on waxed dental floss.

Twenty-eight years later I brought the strand to a jeweler's to have it strung properly. I wish I had a camera when I told the jeweler about the dental floss, her face was a mix of amused horror. W hen I returned for the finished strand the jeweler gave me a little bag holding the original clasp. She said that when jewelry is restrung it is customary to give the original parts back. With a wry smile she added, "I hope you don't mind, I threw your dental floss away."

Knowledge vs. Wisdom

Today my 13-year old asked me the difference between knowledge and wisdom. I attempted an answer and then asked what he thought the difference was. He said, "Knowledge is knowing a tomatoe is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting tomatoes in your fruit salad."

3E Orange

3E Orange, 3E Orange I kept repeating to myself as I walked to the elevators of the airport parking garage. There was a cartoon of an orange airplane on the wall by the elevators. A chart next to the airplane listed smaller cartoon vehicles and the parking floor number they were associated with. How silly I thought - if someone is able to drive a car they certainly should be able to remember a number, letter and color without a cartoon picture. Off the elevator and into the terminal I paid attention to landmarks that would help me remember which parking entrance door to use when I came back. The first door after the second set of moving sidewalks - got it.

Four days later I confidently went through the first door after the second set of moving sidewalks, took the elevator to 3 orange and walked to section E - no van. I walked up and down 3E orange pressing my panic button. I could hear my van horn but could not see my van. Not sure what to do I walked back to the elevator where I saw a cartoon picture of a motorcycle. A motorcycle? I checked the floor and yes I was on level 3 - the airplane however was level 4. By my own logic does this mean I should not be driving?
