My niece, a student at BYU, called my parents this past weekend and asked if she could come and visit on Monday. I thought it was sweet that she would spend a day off from school traveling over an hour one direction to visit her grandparents. I did not know the half of it. My dad assumed a friend would be driving K to their home. Rather - K took a bus from her apartment to a transfer point in Provo. There she caught a bus to Sandy where she took the train to SLC and picked up another bus. She got off that bus in my parent's town and walked to their home carrying a batch of homemade raisin filled cookies, my dad's favorite. Anyone who has made raisin filled cookies knows what a labor of love they are. My parents ordered pizza. The three of them ate and visited and then my dad drove my niece to the bus stop where she started the reverse trip back home.
Her visit meant the world to my parents and to me - 900 miles away. Thanks K.
