Look carefully...at the seemingly small moments...in the constant shaping of souls.- Neal A.Maxwell

Say "Cheese"
I was chaperoning a middle school choir trip.  The teacher arranged the kids in groups of 6 and told them they were to play "two truths and a lie".  Ground rules were "nothing inappropriate and nothing vulgar".  A boy raised his hand.  I went over.  He whispered, "Is moldy cheese vulgar?"
Reality check
I dreamed I was a nanny.  The family had company.  She excused herself and said she had to make dinner.  I offered to make dinner if told what to make.  The wife said manicotti would be good.  I said that I didn't know how to make manicotti.  The husband suggested something, as did each of the guests.  Each time I just shook my head "no".  I explained, "When I said to tell me what to make I guess what I really meant was spaghetti, pancakes or tuna casserole."  I woke up disturbed to realize how too true that dream was.

That day I called my husband at work. told him the dream and then asked what he would like for dinner.  He said, "Pancakes would be good."  I laughed.  He said that he was serious, pancakes would be fine.  The boys likely would have said spaghetti.  I'm grateful they are easy to please but I really need to expand my horizons.

(By the way we had chicken and rice, I just couldn't bring myself to make pancakes after that dream.)

JV in Soccer - Pro in attitude.
16-year old joined the High School JV Soccer team 3 games into the season.  He played AYSO for one season when he was 7 or 8 which is the sum total of his soccer experience up to this point.  The JV team did not mind his lack of experience - they needed numbers and they liked his speed.  He played his first game yesterday.  Their team won 7-0.  He scored one of the seven goals and attempted a number of other goals.  He needs to work on power and accuracy in his kick - which he knows.

After scoring one of the goals Jared, the team-member that made the goal yelled, "Great ball Rolando!" to the team-mate that made the assist.  Today I told Jared that I was impressed that he acknowledged Rolando for the assist. Jared said, "I couldn't have made the goal if Rolando hadn't given me the ball."  16-year old said to Jared, "You gave me a lot of balls that I didn't score with."  And then Jared impressed me again, "But you were always where you were supposed to be to receive the ball AND you scored a goal in your first game."
serious
When we are done with the paper we deliver it to our neighbor's doorstep.  She found a preying mantis on the paper this evening.  She called to say, "I know it's serious when the neighbors send insects to pray for me."
